IMHO you have to get really radical i.e. hugh ports, hugh cam (bigger
than Schrick 274) to loose much midrange on a 2.0l 8V.

My engine
2.0, 10:1 CR, Techtonics ported GTI head w/ matched intake manifold, 5K
throttle body, dual outlet manifold, TT down pipe and 2.25 exhaust w/o
resonator, KS ignition, Schrick 274 cam
Max torque at 3500 RPM
Max power at 6000 RPM
With the 4K gearbox it's really hard to care if your engine makes power
at 2000 RPM.
