front door speaker grills

I just bought four new JBL speakers for the '87 16v.
All the speakers are in. The new speakers are too deep
up front and I can't get the grills back on to cover
them. I'm thinking about grinding down this elliptical
shaped ridge inside the grills with this Craftsman
dremel type tool. This ridge comes out maybe a quarter
inch. Any other suggestions for covering these
speakers up?
