Elevating RPMS

Strangest thing happened last night. Took the car back from my parents, 
everything was well. Drove around on the highway, when I got off to local 
streets, the car was idling at 2100 when in neutral. When I shifted to first 
it came down. When back in neutral it would zoom back up.
Stoped the engine, ran to grab some groceries. Back in all is well. Hasn't 
happened since.
Things that have been done recently:
Clutch, oil change thas all.

Any ideas on where to start.
