plug wires

Hello all,
       Need help, I have the neuspeed 8mm plug wires, new distibutor cap and 
rotor. The problem is my plug wires dont seem to want to stay in my 
distributor. I can be driving along and all of a sudden be running on 3 
cylinders. Great huh? I think factory diameter is 7mm. Is there an adapter or 
what am i doing wrong? My car is an 85 8v.
