Engine Question (compression vs HP)

Okay, I need to pick the brain of those who know
a whole lot more about this than I do.

Here is the scoop. I have the Audi 3A engine (which will one day
be finished it's rebuild - soon I hope). I also am still playing
with the turbo idea. Turbo needs 8:1 compression, 2L runs 10:1.

So can anyone tell me the best way to lower compression on the 2L?

Increasing the head gasket is the first thing that comes to mind, but
what are the draw backs of 2 head gaskets, and will this have any ill
affects? I would think this would be suspect to head gaskets leaks
much easier than the regular system.

The second question is: Is it worth lowering the compression?
I figure a stock JH engine is about 90 horses, the 2L 3a is about
115 or so. So lowering the 10:1 to close to 8:1 how much HP will
be lost? If it is 15 or more horses, it seems like a waste. I
will simple stick the 2L into my daily driver and rebuild the JH
in there for the project car.

I know someone out there knows a whole heck of a lot about these
type of things. So rather than doing the usual, install it and
see if it breaks to learn, I had better ask first :)

TIA

Cory
