Actually its right below the gear stacks for the pinion shaft and the 
mainshaft (I just rebuilt 2 trannies last weekend).

True. But it does catch the shit that comes off of the gears. This location 
is where most of the metal shavings will be. However, if you lose a rivet 
from the ring gear your fucked anyway.

Or one from the magnetron in a 600W micro wave. They are realy strong also.
