Ahh the dreaded blinking temp light.  I'm not sure if there is something on 
this on www.scirocco.org  but if there isn't there ought to be.  This seems 
to be a somewhat common problem, although it hasn't been mentioned on
here in some time.  Most people, myself included, just unplug the relay.  
It can be caused by a the switch(coolant gets in there and shorts it out) or
by the relay, possibly other things I'm unaware of.  If you got  a parter
around
you could try swapping out the parts until it goes away.
