Re: ok..lowering..read...PICTURE.

I really really hope that everyone stops and thinks before they go out and
get a batch of these made.
The front ball joint is THE highest stress suspension component on a
Scirocco. So, this piece needs to be made from the right material and the
dimensions and tolerances need to be right. Also, inserting this piece will
approximately double the bending stress on the bottom of the upright. I
would hate to see one of these letting loose in mid corner.
Also, contrary to a previous post this piece will not improve bump steer. It
will make it worse. It causes a larger angle between the lower a-arm and the
steering arm when veiwed from the front. The a-arm is angled down towards
the wheel and the steering arm is angled up. If the suspension moves up the
lower ball joint will move away from the center of the car, the steering
ball joint will move towards the center of the car causing bump toe-out.
This piece WILL raise the front roll center which will reduce understeer and
body roll.
The basic idea is good because it raises the front roll center and helps
handling, but the strength and bump steer issues need to be addressed first.
Dan
PS. Again, not trying to rain on anybodies parade, but this could be similar
to attempting bungy jumping and having the bungy just one foot too long. Do
the math first!
