After changing the head gasket and having the same problem with the
Scirocco, I pulled the head with intentions of installing a spare. While
changing sensors and outlets, I notice a pretty pattern on the gasket
surface of the "old" head. Nice little lines that make a ratcheting sound
as I swipe my fingernail across them. Under closer inspection, the old
head gasket has mirrored these marks but obviously not been able to
compensate for them. Friggin machine shop! That's what I get for letting
the owner "take care of" a few items.

The "new" head is in place and the car is nearly ready to start. Pray for
this car for I will shoot it if this wasn't the fix.
