koni struts, one finally blew!, well, sort of

ok, while swapping over to 16v springs;
driver side went flawless, get to passenger side, get assembly off of car, pop off the plate at the
top of the spring, take off the old spring, go to put new spring on, and the strut shaft vanished on
me. it shrunk itself back down into the strut. further investigation revealed dirt sticking to the
top of the strut assembly (its a leaker). Now whats funny is that this strut has been this way for a
little while (i.e. a couple of years), and there is still no noticeable effect on suspension. i only
have to turn the adjust screw an extra 1/8 turn in the firm direction to compensate. also keep in
mind that this set of konis has followed me for the last 7 years, and the last 3 sciroccos (ALL of
which were being driven, i.e. daily driver)! The strut probably blew on the first scirocco they were
on (which i ran in several OFFROAD rallys!). Damn these things must be nearly indestructable.

now for the question: i havent investigated getting it replaced. if koni has some sorta lifetime
warranty, will they only swap one? or will they go on the 'change struts in pairs' thing. also, do
they do the rma type thing like with computer hard drives, where they send you the strut, you swap
it, then send them back the bad one?

thanks for any info
