Re: Why do you own a Scirocco? (kind of long)

Me, I just answered the ad: "Drivers wanted". *shrug* ;-)

Seriously, though, two years ago I was looking for a second car. A guy I
know was selling his scirocco. He told me about it and said he'd give it to
me for $800. At that time, I had no idea what a Scirocco was. I got on the
computer that night to find out. I ran across all kinds of sites by devoted
scirocco heads, some of them who are on this list. I was sold. Just by the
pics and all the stories from scirocco owners, I knew this was the car for
me. I went the next day to look at it, and that was it. I brought it home
about a week later to begin the work needed to get it through inspection.
After a month of prep, I brought it through and it passed. It was legally
mine to drive now! It was still early in the afternoon. I went and picked my
son up from daycare. There was some time to kill before I had to meet my
daughter at the bus stop. I decided to take the long way home, you know,
take a little ride for the fun of it. About 15 minutes later, my car was
destroyed. Me and two other cars were on a main road in my town, where the
first car stopped to let someone in from a side road. This ass behind me in
a fullsize Ford F350 with a plow frame on the front wasn't paying attention
and plowed right into me at about 35, pushing me into the car in front of
me, which just happened to be a brand new 1999 Porsche Carrera convertible
*grin*.
So, I got most of what I payed for the car back. Now, being that I had
just gotten the car on the road, I kind of had a vendetta of sorts. I WOULD
have my roc! Well, the guy I bought the roc from said his mechanic had
another roc that he had bought for parts. This is the car I am now driving.
I had bought the first one back from the insurance company and began the
long (almost exactly one year) process of rebuilding the second roc from the
first, because the second one was basically toast.
So, in summary, not only do I own a scirocco because they are
exceptional vehicles, well built, fairly unique (especially in CT), and a
blast to drive, but also because I'm too stubborn to let shit luck get me.
Provided I'm granted the good fortune of never having a collision, I'll be
driving this car forever.
