Aaron thanks for the reply.  Hmm I did not think of this way of doing it, so 
I should cut it off, and drill it out and put in another stud or bolt.  I 
wonder how thick this mounting plate is.  Reason I say is because you say it 
is welded, so I wonder if I am drilling out the weld and replacing it with a 
bolt if the plate will be strong enough or will it just strip out again.

Wait a second I just reread your post so you say drop them in from the top, 
Ok i see what your sayin now.  Hmmm, how are we going to do this?  Will we 
have to go from inside the car (major... major bitch), or can we reach them 
from underneath the car some way?  I am hoping this can be done from the 
outside because I do not want to take apart the center console peace out
