78 Rocco....CIS problems...UPDATE!

OK,....need some help/advise here. The post man came today, NOT bringing my
parts from Mark. :~( So I went to cleaning up the intermed. shaft pulley
once I got the timing belt cover off to find that "punch" mark. I put a
little white paint on the punch mark on the intermed. shaft sprocket so I
could see it through the "V" notch on the crank pulley. ( I'm thinking right
about this alignment aren't I?) lined the mark up on the cam to the top of
the head. Checked to see that the timing mark on the flywheel was close /on
the bell housing pointer.....everything looked good. Looked back at the
inter. shaft/crank alignment.....WRONG! the crank pulleys look like they
are about right. (looking at that side of the motor,...they are kind of in
the "up" position.....meaning they are at about 12-1 O'clock.) The mark on
the interm. sprocket is at the 6 O'clock position....... What the hell?
So now I ask the big question....is there something I am missing here? It
seems to me that I need to loosen the timing belt and align it correctly.
(NOT play with the ignition distributor) Only a little light outside left
and rain is coming tomorrow. Someone help soon. I would love to hear this
little bastard run today.
Thanks,
Chris
