Militec-1 additive

Anyone ever hear of this stuff? They say it's not an oil additive, because
although you add it to the oil, it doesn't modify the oil in any way. They
are claiming it adheres to the surfaces inside the engine and undergoes some
kind of reaction at 100-150 degrees F, increasing the stiffness (not
hardness) of the surface by a factor of 17. (I think that number sounds a
little fishy - seems that number could only be valid for a specific
material.)

Anyway, the stuff is $21.95 for the 8 ounces they recommend adding to a 4-6
quart oil system in an engine. They say it should be added every 15k miles.
There's a report submitted by the Maryland DOT giving some results of a
study they did in which they sampled the oil before and after treating the
engine with Militec-1. They cited a 63% reduction in iron particles
(measured in ppm), and the tin and copper reductions were both at least 70%
after treatment. Seems to indicate that the engine block, rings, and
bearings were all wearing considerably less after treatment.

They also recommend using it in transmissions - I wonder if it would
preserve synchros better.
