And yet, even simpler, remove the 19mm bolt that holds the control arm to
the body and push out on the whole assy.  You shouldn't have to move it much
to get the axle to clear the trans flange so you can move it upward and then
pull it out of the knuckle.  I usually don't have to do this to the
passenger side, but the driver's side is always tighter and this needs to be
done there.  I don't know how you got the driver's side out and not the
pass. side.  Is it a RHD car?  Anyway, remember also that the CV joints have
quite bit of in and out movement so you may be able to use that to pop the
axle out!  HTH!!
