H4 question.

To what does H4 refer in terms of headlights? Is it the style, wattage, etc? 
Also, anyone else with MKII euro-lights have problems with people thinking 
that your brights are on? My lights are wired correctly, so only the outers 
are on with the low-beam. I've aimed my lights very low as not to blind 
people(still see well in az-no need for fogs), but they still think I have 
the high-beams on. Any thoughts?
