In regards to the SMS diagnosis, I would have to disagree at this point that
it would be SMS-related.  Not saying it couldn't be on the verge of
happening.  But if I can smell gear oil that badly (and I think that sitting
in the cabin and smelling it is pretty bad, folks), then we are talking
about visible leakage.  I do not see leakage at the bellhousing.  But there
is considerable leakage at both flange seals.  I have new flanges & seal
kits coming, and am hoping this addresses the problem.  If not, then I
should know soon, I suppose.  :>(      But now it's more a matter of
economics so I go for the 'flange' guess.  You know, right after the section
in Bentley on replacing flange seals is a section on replacing the selector
shaft seal.  Hmmm......  Naww....
