Replacing power steering boot

Hey all,
     I'm trying to replace my passenger side power steering boot which has 
totally separated in the middle.  I read over the procedure in the Bentley, 
and set to work.  I removed the cotter pin, and removed the nut securing the 
tie rod end.  I tried to use a small gear puller to separate the tie rod 
end.  Despite the large amount of force I was exerting with the puller, the 
end was not coming out.  The arms of the puller even started to bend (its a 
cheap one).  It also looks kind of corroded down there.  I'm going to buy a 
good quality puller, but I want to know if anyone has any suggestions or has 
noticed that I have missed some crucial step along the way. Any help is 
appreciated.
