Re: Next level past Mk1 'S' = GTX?

I am contemplating a GTX badge for the back of my 81
(which didn't
start life as an S model but became one later). Since
it will be
'performanced' up beyond the styling cues of a natural
S model and
will contain a bit of Experimental mods and since GTI
pertains to
Rabbit/Golf shells (note GLI = Jetta, etc.) I was
hoping to get some
consensus, historical perspective on this.

======================================
There was no mk1 Scirocco GTX.

In europe, there were two models that were really
nicer than than the U.S. models:

Scirocco GLi
Scirocco GTi

Both were equiped with 110hp 1588 cc motors. The
interior on the Scirocco GTi was not as nice as the
U.S. "S" models (seats with no bolsters). Both cars
had uprated springs, and anti-sway bars front/rear,
with vented front discs. The GLi offered more
"creature comforts" (nicer interior). They also did
not come standard with the zender front spoiler.

In the UK only, there was the Scirocco Storm, which as
far as I know was the only MK1 Scirocco that came with
leather seats. It also featured the same 110 hp
drivetrain as the GLi and GTi. The Storm did come with
the zender frontspoiler used on the U.S. "S" and other
special edition ('78 Champagne edition) Sciroccos.
