Sure you can. You just set a couple rolls of paper towels at the base of
the hood and set the back edge on those while you hold the front with
one hand and bolt up a hinge with the other. I've done it lots of times
without damaging any paint. As a matter of fact, I've installed the hood
on a '66 Jaquar XKE by myself. You know, the kind where the entire front
of the car tilts forward!
But, I'm a solitary asshole that would rather figure out a way than ask
for help.
