Re: *ENGINE CEASE UPDATE* (long)

I agree here. Having a head full of oil sounds like a reasonable guess
as to what happened.

Get a new or charged battery and see if it turns over; if so, fire it
up and watch oil pressure and listen for clunk-clunk noise. If noise
then it was shot already so no further harm done; if no noise and
reasonable oil pressure then you actually may be able to get a few more
miles out of it.

Then, pull the valve cover off and see why the oil may not have drained
back into the block so it doesn't happen again and check for damage
there.

Dropping the pan and sliding in new main and rod bearings is *so* easy
it may save you the hassle of a swap and rebuild, depending on
compression and hot oil pressure.

FWIW, I once borrowed a Mitisubish van and the oil filter blew up -
separated at the seam - pumping all the oil out steadily over a
one-mile stretch. That engine also appeared shot and would not turn
over. The owner's mechanic refilled it, charged the battery, and
presto, it ran fine (all the way to the dealer to be traded in). So
all may not be lost.
