[tech] 8V and knock sensor

Guys,

I'm getting a knock sensor and wiring from one of my friends for free.  My
present motor is an 8V with a 1.8l block and head with the low compression.
Eventually, I wish to upgrade to  a high compression motor.

Question: can I install the knock sensor system in my present low
compression motor?  Will this hinder the car's performance? Also, how would
I wire the knock sensor into ma car? TIA
