There was the 8V Rabbit GTI in '83-'84, followed by
the 8V (A2) "GTI" in 1985 through 1987 (the 8V A2 GTI
came back in 1990-1992).

There was no Scirocco GTi in the USA - mk1 or mk2.

VW would have had to (emission) certify the 112hp DX
motor for this. I surely would have noticed it - I
haunted VW showrooms from 1977 through 1989, when they
stopped selling Sciroccos here.

In Europe, I believe the last Scirocco GTi was 1984,
as it was replaced in the Scirocco lineup by the
Scirocco GTX.
