My '88 16v has a Scirocco GTi badge on it.  On the hatch at least, which is 
not original to the car.  I thought there was an 8v GTi in the mid 80's.  
The badge is fairly old and has the same wear as the "Volkswagen" on the 
left side of the hatch.
