air leak check

A while back there was a discussion about spraying something (carburetor
cleaner?) in the engine compartment to find air leaks.  When you sprayed
near the leak, the engine would stall.  Was it carburetor cleaner?  Also,
do you just need to spray a mist, or get a fair amount on the area?
