Re: How old?

Guess I might as well chime in, too. I suppose I'll give all the details,
since my list of VWs is so short...

I'm 27. I learned to drive in my dad's '74 Dasher, and gained further
experience in his '84 Jetta. (My father is the origin of my VW addiction.)

My first car was a '75 Scirocco, "Helga", purchased from my older
step-brother for $40 because she had a hole in the block. I spent that
summer doing odd jobs at a VW salvage yard/shop to pay for a new engine
(from an Audi 4000--plugged up the injector holes and put on a nice Weber
carb with K&N filter). She lasted me through 2 years of high school and 1
year of college before she had to be retired. The frame was cracked where
the A-arms attached--on BOTH sides! (She had been rolled at least once
before I got her...)

My second car was a '85 Scirocco, "Konrad". He served me quite well, and
great fun was had by all. He lasted through the remainder of college, a
year of work, and the first year of marriage. After that, he was starting
to show his age (nickel-and-diming me) and my wife began complaining about
how noisy/uncomfortable he was for long road trips and such. <sigh>

So, in '98 I traded Konrad in for my current daily driver, a '95 GTI VR6,
"Wolfgang". (No Corrados were available at the time.) I really wanted to
keep Konrad around for the future, but had neither the storage space nor the
money to do so. Three years and lots of money and effort have gone into
Wolfgang, and he's nearly complete. As such, I turned my eye towards the
future...

This summer, I bought myself a '84 Scirocco project car. I haven't named
her yet, but I've got the list narrowed down to 7 possibilities. At any
rate, she's going to be the car I can have all kinds of fun with, and not
worry about my wife's comfort. :) I definitely plan to put a turbo in her,
but she's in storage for the winter since there's no room in our garage.
She needs lots of work and TLC, but that's exactly why I got her.

That's about the size of it. Sorry for the length....
