Help needed: REBUILDING those KH calipers

Hey all,

I am rebuilding a set of Kelsey Hayes calipers. I did it once in 1993 and
it went fine. However, this time through I am having some probs as I can't
recall the correct rebuilding procedure. So anyone's input who has
experience would be appreciated. Please don't email and say, "I usually
just buy new ones"; thanks a gazillion.

Anyhow, here is the issue:

I've got the piston out and cleaned, as well as the caliper housing itself.
I've installed the ring seal in the caliper housing (all lubricated, of
course). Problem is, I can't recall if I should

A). put the dust seal on the piston first and try to install the piston, or
B.) install the dust seal in the caliper and try to install the piston
through the seal.

For some reason I recall that I had put the seal ON the piston, then
installed the piston. That leaves you with the task of getting the outer
lip of the dust seal to recess into the caliper housing while the piston is
in the bore. HOW do you do that? I know I got it done before (that is,
before I became old and senile).

Anyone?? I've got to get it done this coming weekend.

-Phil

PS> Sheared one dust boot to hell by trying option B above. That strikes me
that it is NOT the way to do it.
