Ifn you are using the jetta/golf Recarros, the electric conductors are not 
fussy about polarity.  One way it goes up....On bro's 89 GTi, I tapped 
into the center console's feed to the cig. lighter.  Its fused (15A) and 
always on.  Ran wire under carpet to seat tracks.  There is some 
site/instructions somewhere (gti16v site? dunno about modification so 
that the seat lowers more, which might be needed in Scirocco.  the 
electrical connectors on the Recarros are 1/4" quick-disconnect, get some 
insulated females and you're set.  My cheap ass solution is to rip out 
the wiring on a discarded washing machine.  You get lotsa color-coded 
1/4" connectors factory terminated better than you can do (unless you 
solder).

RE:  Shops in Midwest

Yes, Potter and Mike are useful, but here in NE Ohio, Eurocar ahs big 
inventory, low mail-order magnitude prices, and 3rd gen. vW operators.  
They helped out on lotsa conversions, they know VW/Audis.  330/825-0826 
for parts (Tom).  Don't have the email handy, there is link on the screaming 
yellow MKII VR-6 conversion's site.  My $0.02.  Its really nice to get your 
rotors right now and not have to worry about sending them back when they 
are the wrong size.  I've seen Audis at shop from >100 miles away.

Being on the east coast, I haven't worked through Potter's as I have
Adirondack (Mark) in NY to deal with (happily so), and let me just say that
I can't see anyone being much better.  So I'll just say that the two parts
companies must be the best in the US.  They are the ones I see constantly
referred to in emails.
