Well shit then that doesnt sound very good. I have (dare I say?) seen the 
circle that the pushrod presses on in the center of the release plate punch 
through.

On a lighter note and probably not your case but I had once a Rabbit that I 
installed a tranny in the hole where there wasnt one when I got the car and 
the pushrod was actually too short (sorry for the run on sentence).
