High idle when braking?

Can anyone tell me why my idle increases when I brake hard?  If I'm coming
to a stop and put in the clutch and stand on the brake, my idle jumps from
about 1500 to about 2000 or a bit higher.  This doesn't happen under normal
braking.

Ideas?  TIA!
