You have to turn it so the tachometer end of the cluster comes out first.
Its tricky, but trust me, it can be done.  I've done it about 20 times in
the last two weeks.  If you turn it so the speedo end comes out first, its
more difficult due to the cable doo-hickey makes it deeper on that side...
