option numbers

  seeing as i can post this and not offend 1/2 of the list because
they'll be attending a show....
  i got looking at the little sticker in the trunk yesterday and
compared my '85 8v to my '86 8v. ended up i got more questions than
answers.

1) what is the sort number and how is it decoded?

2) i know the scirocco is a type 53, but under type i have 533 and 544.
what's the deal 
here?

3) both cars are pretty much identical except for the '85 has a
moonroof. the options codes don't match up, however. did the option
numbers change between years? hell, what were the options available on
the two years?

  i realize this has gone around before and if i could find someone at
vwoa to ask then i wouldn't bring it up again. you know how they are
though. if it doesn't concern the new bettle, passat, jetta, golf, or
eurovan, most of 'em are completely clueless. thanx for the help.
