How screwed am I? (more fuel probs.)

The saga continues...

Installed the fuel distributor, turned the key and noticed
a fuel leak.  Turns out it's the (I think) return hose -
rubber hose that goes from the distributor to a metal line
that then goes back under the car.  Grabbed a replacement
(parts cars are really handy) and went to replace it,
however, the fitting on the metal hose is what let go - so
now the fitting turns freely on the metal hose.  I'm
assuming this is not something I can fix easily.  Running a
new fuel line back to the tank is just NOT an option right
now.  My friend (who works at the dealership) suggested I
cut off the fitting and slide the rubber hose over the
metal one with a hose clamp...   I'm guessing that might
leak, at least without some sort of sealant.  Can anyone
offer any better suggestions????

Pleeze, I don't want to be a passenger for the trip to
Waterfest AGAIN.
