RE: instrument cluster question

Every '88 I've seen (including mine) has the same cluster as yours. I just
met Steve H last weekend, and IIRC, that's the way his was, too. I
personally like it better, anyway. It seems that most of the '86s/'87s had
the one you're going to put in, though some had a 160mph speedo.

I can't say for sure that you can swap them, but I *think* you can without
any trouble, though I don't know if the upshift light would work or not...

Subject: instrument cluster question

Did the 1988 Scirocco 16vs come w/ the following instrument cluster,
b/c mine is like this:

1) 140 mph speedo
2) in the tachometer gauge there is the fuel level indicator ONLY
3) where the upshift light usually is (was on my '84 8v) there is the
water temp. gauge
4) no upshift light

The deal is that my water temp gauge doens't work. I will test the
temp. sensor on the head tonight, and if this isn't the culprit, I
will switch instrument clusters to see if that solves the problm. The
one I will put in has:

140 mph speedo
the tach has both the fuel level, AND water temp gauge in it
upshift light

Question: Will this plug in and work fine with the existing wiring
in my 88 16v? My hunch is yes, b/c I am thinking that this was the
original type of cluster that came w/ the car (?????), and that the
current one I have now is not the original.

Thanks,

Victor
