I have a 16v in my 80 with the stock fuel pump relay and fuse box .
I can tell you there is a limiter on my car that cuts in around 7200 . I have 
my CIS-E
computers wired up into the old fuse box . 
So I belive the old A1 cars do have a built in limiter even if it was just a 
1.6 . 

I dont need to rev past 7000 rpm anyway , YET :) .
