2.0 16V origin?

Some nimrod on VWVortex just posted some crap that he says he wrote for a 
"publication" including some drivel about the 2.0 16V motor out of the
Passat being built in Mexico - while the GTI/Jetta 2.0 16V motor is from
Germany.  Huh?

This makes NO sense - the '91-'92 GTI was built in Mexico - if any car were
to get a mexi-built motor, it would be that one.  The Jetta and Passat were
both built in Germany.

AFAIK, ALL these motors were built in Germany anyways, regardless of where
the car was assembled.. is this correct?
