Argh,

Please don't do this. The out gassing from the burnt matches are worse
for a human than the nasty smell from decaying carpet. I would ask you
to refrain from adding free sulfur to your diet.

That said I'd point you to the products in Kragen or Orchard Supply that
will combine with the stuff and deflate the smelly stuff. look for a
gray spray bottle, sorry I forgot the brand name.
