Re: [16v] valve cover gasket replacement

Hi Toby,

The center part of the valve cover gasket comes with the outer part. The
whole job took me 2 hours, but I was thoroughly cleaning everything, so that
added time. The hardest part was the bolts on the back of the head that
support the intake manifold. Make sure you don't forget to reconnect a
ground wire.

On the seat front, you can change out that wire mesh. The upper part of the
seat is a pain to work on, but I think you will be able to get away with
just releasing the bottom of the center cushion, and that should get you
enough access to change out the mesh. I would recommend checking the
release cable that goes diagonally across the seat; it tends to break where
it kinks through the plastic loop. The springs that hold the wire mesh in
are strong, so you might have to use a block-and-tackle method with a strong
rope or strap to stretch the spring enough to hook the mesh in place. The
easiest approach is to connect one side of the mesh to the springs and then
connect your pull strap to the wire that the springs are attached to. Then
pull the strap so the springs are being extended enough for you to hook the
springs on the other side of the mesh. Understand? It really helps to have
an extra set of hands to hook the springs while you're pulling on the strap.

GL!
