I have similar woes. As does my friend. Both of us have lowered our
Mk1s. Me with Nuespeed springs, him with HOR. Still not low enough.
Looks good in the back but the front still sits kink of high. So he did
the same thing you did. Cut a coil off. Still too high and it rides like
shit. So, thing to do is- coilovers!
