Fw: Tranny Woes..

Mine is leaking from the output flange seals. I also need to crack it open
and check things out (Quaife?!?!?!). Anyway, the top of the trans, it could
be a few things. Not very common, but the shifter shaft, or the reverse
light switch, or the speedo cable hole. Another possibility, and much more
common, it a leaky distributor o-ring, (internal and/or external) or a valve
cover gasket. These will leak on the trans then onto the ground. Look at
the oil closely, see if it is trans oil or engine oil, then check to see if
there are any opennings in the trans anywhere, then clean it. Much easier
to track a leak on a clean motor/trans. If this doesn't work, most shops
have a dye checking system where they put dye into the oil the check the
engine/trans with a black like to see where it is coming from. With a leak
like yours (fairly heavy) it shouldn't take them long to find it!!! HTH!!!
