random problem - clutch not disengaging??

hey all-

i had this problem about a month ago that i shrugged off, but it happened
again yesterday and it was worse than before so i must ask for help from
the group...

about a month ago, i put the car in a parking space only to have to move my
car a few seconds later. as i got into the car, i depressed the clutch
pedal (the gearbox was in 1st, i believe) and turned the key... the engine
stalled. it seemed like the clutch had not disengaged fully. i depress the
clutch pedal a few times, shift the gearbox a few times with the engine
off. started the engine - the clutch disengaged but grinded a bit as i put
the gearbox in reverse. no problem since...

yesterday, i put the car in a parking spot, took off for a few hours, came
back to the car, depressed the clutch, started the engine. stalled. shift
into all gears with clutch depressed/engaged, engine off and run through
the gears. started the engine, engine stalled. the clutch was still
engaged!!! after cursing (not at my car, of course : ) i tried shifting
again a few more times with the engine on, gearbox in neutral... no matter
how many times i tried depressing the clutch, i could not engage into any
gears except reverse (i only did this once only to hear grinding, ouch..)
after cursing some more and taking some deep breaths i started the engine
again with the clutch depressed, put the lever in first.. it worked! what
the hell is going on???

it's not a good feeling to start the engine with the clutch engaged..

thanks
dave
