HELP!! Horrible clunking noise

Okay, so I thought that my "clunk clunk clunk" my car makes when driving it 
was motor mount related...  so far, just for the helluv it I replaced the 
rear and pass. side motor mounts...  the dash doesn't vibrate anymore... but 
the clunking has gotten worse... it sounds like maybe suspension related... 
strut bearings maybe?  It clunks especially bad when downshifting.

Any suggestions as what to check first?
