Jan,

I can imagine your frustration. I'm just relaying what I was told by VWoA
customer service rep (Brian ?) whan I called to inquire after the recall on
my car. According to him, the beginning serial number for the recall
campaign should have had a May 86 build date. If I recall, the first 86.5 's
were produced in April 86, leaving a very small and questionable window for
non-coverage. Then again, since this is an identical design for the 8V car,
I can't explain why they are not included either. I suspect someone with
enough money and an apropriately exorbitant lawyer could have the scope of
this campaign widened to include the others...
