Aaron, I have been battleing this for about a year.  In my case it was the
wiper arm that was completely smoothed out.  The splines on the wiper unit
were slightly smoothed out, but acceptable.  I replaced the arm with the
passenger side one I had laying around from my Roc when it had dual wipers.
It appeared to fit and work fine, yet I have not tested it in the rain.
Also the arm is a little shorter, so now I can put that bigger wiper blade
on that I wanted.
