greetings fellow San Diegan :) where exactly are you located??


Now on to the problem.. It sounds fuel related to me, the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay can overheat and shut down. 
I would make a jumper switch (piece of wire with 2 spades on the end, and a switch in the middle, check the bently :) ) , replace your fuel pump relay with it and see if the problem still happens.
If it still dies, see if you can still hear the fuel pump running after it dies (with the switch on of course)
That would be my first step.
I have a jumper swtich i carry around in my car if you're close to Poway
