Sorry for the late reply, I've been outta town for 10 days..

I don't think the paint job had anything to do with it, it just looks
like it's difficult to impossible to lay the stuff down into the tracks
without a sort of rolling motion, and that seems to be where the ripple
effect comes from.  Hell I dunno.  

The car wasn't taken down to bare metal, but was "properly" prepped (as
far as that definition can go w/o complete stripping).
