Re: [non-roc] passat waterpump q's



I have a simple rule on this sort of thing (at least on a car that I plan to keep for a while):

If I'm fixing something and, in the process of taking the car apart, I find a part that I couldn't see before I took things apart, I replace it!  For a water pump, this would probably mean chaging the timing belt and any hoses that connect to it.  Of course, replace the v belts too.  (I learned that one the hard way, when I had an alternator belt break on a Mercedes, taking out a 600 dollar air conditioner hose and the radiator fan!)
