Agreed

ATF works in a transfer case because it is usually

Disagree here...  unless when you say "usually" you mean in the underdrive
gears of the transmission.  In high gear (4th or 5th if a 5 speed) the input
shaft of the transfer case operates at the same or higher speed than the
input shaft of the transmission (engine rpm).
