Alright, i don't know if I can explain this too well here but I'll try.
I have an Mk1 with the stock mono-wiper. Not only did I want to
straighten out the arm but I wanted to shorten it too. I now run a 22
inch blade. The largest you can run without it running off the
windshield. Now cutting the arm was easy, but you can't weld it because
its spring steel. So I used JB weld. Amazing stuff, it will bond
anything! I have had no problems yet. You need to measure it out before
you cut it, but your basicaly taking out the bended part. You will cut
it right before the first bend so from the bottom of the arm up it will
be totally straight. Then cut the tip that actually holds the blade off.
In all you remove about 2 inches of material from the arm. Then grind
down the two pieces that you will be JB welding. The arm itself will lay
on/over the tip piece. I realize its hard to understand and even harder
to convey but thats the best I can do. After the JB weld hardens I
sanded it smooth and painted it. It looks stock. You only get one chance
to do this. It has to be perfect or the wiper will run off the
windshield. Measure carefully. You can then get the wiper to rest in any
position on the windshield by losening the nut on the wiper motor that
holds the arm, manually placing arm where you want it, then retighten.
You may have to do it a few times to get it to actually stop exactly
where you want it. Anyway, feel free to ask me any questions, and I'll
try to explain it best I can. Hasta...
