  that's the reason i'm asking. my haynes manual (for the scirocco)
doesn't say anything about it and the one i checked out from the library
(for the diagnostics, etc.) only had the digifant and cis-e motronic
systems (which i copied and put on my web page <- shameless plug :)  i
have a standard 8v california scirocco and am assuming it's a cis system
(as the haynes manual listed dates and engine sizes for the other two
systems). i even checked the chilton's manual for the scirocco (and
import cars through 1986) and still get no help. from what i've gathered
from everyone else, though, is that it's more mechanincal than
electrical so it might not even have a way to check it. oh, well. thanx
for the info.
